The Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (SMESA), the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) organized the Taiwan and Belgium Business Matchmaking event at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2 on June 7, 2024. This event focused on digital technology, and representatives from over 30 SMEs from Taiwan and Belgium were invited to engage in business matchmaking to assist Taiwanese SMEs in expanding business opportunities in the European market.

The SMESA stated that both Taiwan and Belgium rely on SMEs as their main force for economic development. Located in the central heart of Europe, Belgium offers an ideal landing spot for Taiwanese companies looking to expand into the EU market due to its geographic location, skilled workforce, and logistical conditions. Meanwhile, Taiwan, situated at the hub of the Asia-Pacific region, possesses abundant ICT research and development capabilities as well as industrial supply chains, making it a springboard for European and American SMEs to enter the Asian market.

By leveraging their complementary strengths, Taiwan and Belgium can accelerate SMEs  entry into international markets. In recent years, the SMESA has continuously collaborated with the Wallonia Export and Investment Agency (AWEX) to organize panel discussions, themed exchanges, and business matchmaking to promote exchanges and innovative cooperation opportunities between SMEs from both sides.

The SMESA pointed out that AWEX has led business delegations to Taiwan for two consecutive years to participate in InnoVEX and organize business matchmaking. This year s  event featured 9 Belgian companies and incubators, covering fields such as digital transformation, green technology, smart manufacturing, and smart cities. This event attracted 22 Taiwanese companies and incubators, including Microip, IPEVO, BILINK, OmniEyes, AIRA, Sunsino, and TMU BioMed Accelerator to participate in one-on-one in-depth business discussions. By establishing the Taiwan-Belgium enterprise exchange platform, this event aimed to accelerate the connection of Taiwanese SMEs with European partners and resources, fostering more significant international linkages and opportunities.
